Miles Davis' long-time label, Columbia Records, has decided to pay an ultimate tribute to the legendary jazz musician, with the release of 'The Genius of Miles Davis,' a 43-disc collector's set of some of his most treasured recordings.

The disc set, which is officially due out on Sept. 14, will reportedly be the first to bring together all eight multi-CD box sets that are collectively known as 'The Miles Davis Series.' Each installation in the series covers an especially influential period of Davis' artistic development, from 1955 to 1975. Originally released in 1966, 'The Miles Davis Series' has garnered a total of eight Grammy Awards....(read more)

T-Pain, 'Rap Song' Feat. Hip-Hop's Captain Auto-Tune himself, T-Pain, builds a strong case for rap as make-out music, on his new single 'Rap Song' featuring Rick Ross. The song is the third single from his forthcoming, as-yet unscheduled album 'rEVOLVEr.'

Not only does T-Pain process his voice this time, he layers it on top of itself repeatedly. Then, he puts it together with gentle piano, hand claps and plucked strings, resulting in an oddly pleasing, almost psychedelic mid-tempo soul song.

If you're prudish, you might not want to ask exactly how he figures N.W.A. is good mood-setting music, or what word rhymes with Gucci. Let's stick with this quote: "We can do it all night long / I'm about to have your egg on / And I ain't doing nothing wrong, but we can make love to a rap song."...(read more)

Linkin Park, 'Waiting for the End' -- New Song

Linkin Park recently released the sentimental, alternative orchestrated, ''Waiting for the End,' another new song off their upcoming album, 'A Thousand Suns,' out on Sept. 14.

Carried by brilliantly simplistic, hallow-sounding percussion -- and ultimately, driving bass -- the rock-infused single is highlighted by Chester Bennington's wails, as he pleads to seek restoration from a failed relationship: "Waiting for the end to come / Wishing I had strength to stand / This is not what I had planned / It's out of my control."

And, as a nice touch, Mike Shinoda's flow bookends the single, which is a follow-up to their lead-off track, 'The Catalyst.' and their fan track 'Wretches and Kings.' 'Waiting for the End' is currently streaming on LP's MySpace page, but you can also listen to the song over on AOL Radio's New Alternative First station.
Disturbed turn the top of the Billboard 200 album chart into an 'Asylum' with their new album of the same name selling 179,000 copies this week, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

It's the Chicago-based hard rock band's fourth straight studio album to reach the top of the charts, and finds the band delving into darker, more in-depth subject matter such as war crimes, the West Memphis Three, and, on lead single 'Another Way to Die,' humankind's destructive effects on the planet.

The 'Now 35' singles compilation is the second of five new entries onto this week's Top 10, hitting No. 2 with sales of 105,000 units. R&B singer Lyfe Jennings debuts at No. 6 with 'I Still Believe,' his fourth and -- if you can believe what any young, popular artist ever says about retirement (which you can't) -- last album ever. Jennings has stated that he will now focus on his family and work, but behind the scenes in the music industry.

Close behind we find the Goo Goo Dolls, who end a four year drought of new material with their new record, 'Something for the Rest of Us' and quite happily find 34,000 fans still love them enough to get them to No. 7 in their first week....(read more)

Lil Scrappy, 'Bad (That's Her)' Feat. In his new song, 'Bad (That's Her),' Lil Scrappy goes into insightfully lurid detail about infamous women who look beautiful -- and totally know it.

Once we hear the opening chords, the song's digitally symphonic backdrop instantly inspires thoughts of grandiloquence, and the looming feeling that Lil Scrappy is about to dish something truly profound; and, true to the listener's expectations, he does.

Throughout the course of the song, which features an appearance from Stuey Rock, Lil Scrappy describes the protagonist as a woman who thinks "money ain't a thing," and who definitely "knows she's bad."

Lil Scrappy's new album, 'Prince of the South 2,' is due to hit stores on Oct. 5. To hear Lil Scrappy's new song, tune in to the New HIp-Hop First station on AOL Radio.
Rihanna is gearing up to release a brand new album, titled 'Loud,' which follows Barbados-born star's highly-personable 2009 smash effort 'Rated R.'

Rihanna recently announced that her new album was finished and ready for a Nov. 2 release, during a live chat on the official fansite Rihanna Daily.

And, judging from her exuberance, she's certainly excited about the upcoming release. As MTV reports, the singer recently called on her fans to "get LOUD everybody, get crazy, get excited, cuz I'm pumped. I'm just gonna be ME, cuz that's what u guys love the most, and that's what makes me feel best."...(read more)

Deftones, 'You've Seen the Butcher' -- New Song

Deftones are back with the sultry, sex-charged and oddly titled 'You've Seen the Butcher,' the third single from their acclaimed 2010 album 'Diamond Eyes.'

The song follows two previous single releases from the album: 'Rocket Skates' and 'Diamond Eyes.'

An extended introduction featuring dry, muted stabs of guitar creates an ominous setting. Then the drums explode and things start resembling a condensed, more loving version of Jane's Addiction's tribal-beat classic 'Ted, Just Admit it.'

Instead, lead singer Chino Moreno verbally stalks his romantic conquest for the evening: "I wanna watch you close / I need to see for sure / After the tapings through / Who do you think we can show?" At no point is an explanation of the song's title offered to the listener....(read more)

Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros, '40 Day Dream' -- New Song

Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros embark on a '40 Day Dream' in their new radio single off their debut fan-praised album, 'Up and Below.'

Hand-clapping opens the track -- with the help of the band's 10-piece ensemble -- while chopstick-style piano-playing mixed with accordion and ethereal electric guitar melodies add to the song's lyrics of living in a never-ending, nostalgic dream of being in love:

"It's the magical mystery kind / Must be a lie / Bye bye to the too good to be true kind of love / Oooooh I could die / Oooooh now, I could die."...(read more)

Hinder, 'All American Nightmare' -- New Song

Oklahoma rockers Hinder embark on an 'All American Nightmare' in the title track off their third studio effort, expected in stores sometime this fall.

Opening with melodic, innocent guitar plucking, the song transcends into a full-fledged rocker -- even leaving room for an air guitar sequence -- as singer Austin Winkler admits being America's bad boy, turning "the girl next door into hell on heels."

Saskatchewan-born Kevin Churko is behind the production and mixing of their 'All American Nightmare' album, who also worked on Ozzy's latest effort, 'Scream,' as well as Five Finger Death Punch's 2009 album, 'War Is the Answer.'

Kings of Leon seem to be living up to their promise not to play it safe on 'Radioactive,' the first single from their upcoming fifth album 'Come Around Sundown.'

The record is the much-anticipated follow-up to the 2008 breakthrough smash 'Only by the Night,' which introduced the band to millions of new fans with a pair of maybe too-easily digested and overplayed singles, 'Sex on Fire' and 'Use Somebody.'

'Radioactive' announces the band's somewhat experimental intentions right off the bat, as a distorted, woozy bass line and an almost progressive-rock flurry of jumbled guitar notes leads into the uptempo, percussion-heavy musical track.

Caleb Followill's distinctive, soulful vocals soon arrive to help keep things familiar; and as the song builds -- in more typical Kings of Leon fashion -- to a big, hummable and uplifting chorus, he and his new-found female backup singers address the importance of tradition:

"Its in the water, Its in the story of where you came from / Your sons and daughters in all their glory its gonna save her / And when they dance and come together and start rising / Just drink the water where you came from / Where you came from."...(read more)

Jack Johnson, 'At or With Me' -- New Song

'At or With Me' is a new track off Jack Johnson's June-released album, 'To the Sea.'

Beginning with a breezy piano melody -- followed by layered electric riffs and percussion -- this peppy song has Jack half-mocking himself, crooning, 'Are they laughing at or with me / Oooooooo ooooh / Why can't we just say what we mean."

By the time we reach three minutes, the soul-driven, foot-stomping harmonica chimes in, adding more layers to a effervescent, summer jam. The singer's warming tones -- on 'At or With Me' as well as other uptempo tracks featured on Johnson's album 'To the Sea' -- are credited to birth of his daughter....(read more)

Pitbull, 'Hey Baby (Drop It to the Floor)' Feat. Pitbull's new song, 'Hey Baby (Drop It to the Floor),' featuring T-Pain, stands as a testament to the Miami-based artist's astounding versatility.

With a pulsating rhythm and electrified beats, the track seems like it's tailor-made for South Beach's hottest dance floors. At the same time, however, Pitbull's reggaeton roots are evident throughout 'Hey Baby,' as a persistent, pulsating beat keeps the song grooving along, from start to finish. And as always, T-Pain puts his own indelible, Auto-Tuned stamp on the song, as he croons, "Hey baby - you can be my girl I can be your man / And we can pump this jam however you want."
Kid Rock hasn't released a new album since 2007's 'Rock n Roll Jesus.' That will all change this fall, though, when the eternally youthful Detroit rap-rocker finally releases his 10th studio album, titled 'Born Free.'

Set for release on Nov. 16, 'Born Free' was reportedly hammered out during a two-week recording session in Los Angeles, with an all-star lineup of contributing musicians assembled by producer Rick Rubin. As The Boot reports, strange bedfellows T.I. and Martina McBride will pair up for a track titled 'Care,' while Zac Brown will team up with Rock on the song 'Flying High.'

Meanwhile, Sheryl Crow will attempt to recreate the magic she and Kid Rock found on 2002's hit single 'Picture,' with a song titled 'Collide,' featuring piano work from Bob Seger. Even Rock's accompanying band on 'Born Free' features some of the biggest names in music, including Metallica's James Hetfield on guitar, the Red Hot Chili Peppers' Chad Smith on drums, and Benmont Tench, of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, on keyboard. Despite the fact that he's assembled a group of artists from ostensibly disparate backgrounds, Rock says it's never a problem to bring them all together. "I'm the catalyst for everything," he reminds us....(read more)

Jesse McCartney, 'Shake' -- New Song

'Shake' is Jesse McCartney's new pop single off his upcoming, untitled studio album, expected in stores this October.

Over dancehall, synth beats and "Eh eh eh"s, McCartney proceeds to tell all about his new girl, confidently admitting, "She'd do anything to have me / When she calls, I know / Exactly what she wants from me."

Last month, McCartney announced the completion of his fourth studio effort over Twitter: "Ladies and Gentlemen- A Toast. I have officially completed my 4th Solo Album. To everyone who took part- I Thank You." His upcoming studio album is expected to sound similar to his previous effort 'Departure,' but incorporating more R&B and urban influences, as shown in 'Shake.'...(read more)

Rihanna, 'Only Girl (In the World)' -- New Song

Rihanna wants her man to make her feel like she's the 'Only Girl (In the World)' on her first single off her upcoming fifth studio album, 'Loud.'

Incorporating strobing, dance club beats in the chorus, Rihanna pleads for her lover to give her all the attention, singing: "Like I'm the only one that you'll ever love / Like I'm the only one who knows your heart / Only girl in the world."

The song best represents the title of her upcoming album, and provides a nice contrast to her previous effort, the downbeat, emotional 'Rated R.' 'Only Girl' is produced by the Norwegian production group Stargate -- who also collaborated on her dance singles, 'Don't Stop The Music, 'Hate That I Love You,' and more recently her No. 1 dancehall hit 'Rude Boy.'...(read more)

Michael Buble, 'Hollywood' -- New Song

Canadian jazz and pop singer Michael Bublé continues to churn out hits, his next 'Hollywood,' the first single off his re-release of the 2009 chart-topping album, 'Crazy Love.'

Fusing doo-wop backup singers with electric guitar trills, the song has Bublé crooning about a muse tempted to sell herself to Hollywood, advising: "So don't go higher for desire / Put it in your head, Hollywood is dead / You can find it in yourself."

Co-penned by songwriter-pianist Robert G. Scott and Bublé, the song's paired music video is expected to be released later this month, with Bublé acting out a handful of different celebrities. The re-release, out Oct. 25, is titled 'Crazy Love Hollywood Edition.'...(read more)

Free Music Tuesday -- Lonely Forest, Janeane Garafalo + More

Hey, hey! Hope everyone had a good Labor Day weekend. Let's get through your (hopefully shorter than usual) workweek with the four new MP3s featured in this week's Free Music Tuesday column. We've got hard rock, a loving ode to the state of Washington and a pop song that's, blessedly, not aimed at mall teens. Plus, we grabbed a special comedy bit from none other than Janeane Garofalo! If you need help getting these onto your computer, check out this easy how-to download an MP3 tutorial.

Dove Award-winning Christian Contemporary Music artist Chris Tomlin releases his first single from his upcoming album, 'And If Our God Is for Us,' in stores Nov. 16.

Over dramatic alternative pop percussion, Tomlin melodically confesses his entrusted love: "All your ways are sure / I will trust in you alone / Higher than my side / High above my life."

'And If Our God Is for Us,' follows Tomlin's Top 10 Billboard-charting, Christmas-themed album, 'Glory in the Highest,' which included three original songs and featured artists Matt Redman, Christy Nockels and Audrey Assad.
The 10 Best Radiohead songs may just be one the most subjective and unique lists in all of music. Releasing their first album back in 1993, almost every record since was recognized as a "best of the year" candidate, proving that quantity is only surpassed by the quality of their songs. From Brit-pop hits to ambient movie scores, their sound is as varied as the results of our list.
